Stop Sign Rearranged
Medium: reflective alloy and wood sculpture
This work began life as a humble street stop sign. It was damaged in an accident and was destined for land fill. It was donated to me by a friend in the hope that I could recycle it and give it a second life. I have a huge focus on recycling in my art and love to see trash transformed into art. I cut the sign with an angle grinder into 8 identical slices like a pizza. After many different shapes were created by rearranging the pieces, I finally settled on the symmetrical diamond. The reflective aspect also makes it highly visible at night. Inspired by Rosalie Gascoigne this is a sculptural piece by nature but can be hung like a painting. This work represents a future where all materials are recycled and repurposed.
